Lost Ring Finders
Wednesday August 11 2010 I met my treasure hunting buddies TXCoindigger, DiggerDun and OTlew (The Hole In The Beach Gang) at Stewart Beach Galveston, Texas for a late afternoon and evening treasure hunt. The weather was pleasant for a change, cloudy and cooler than normal. As I started hunting near the towel line a stranger with a metal detector approached. We shook hands, he told me he was from San Antonio. After a short conversation he walked away. In passing an umbrella he looked back and said "Someone lost a ring there, I tried to find it with no luck" (pointing at the sand) and then continued on his way. Fifty feet later I was at the umbrella. I double checked to see that my Fisher F4 was in All Metal mode then swung the coil. On the first pass of the Double D coil a strong signal was heard through my earphones! I switched to All Metal Discriminate Mode to check the Fisher VDI number. It was 27, definitely in the gold range. With my scoop I removed some sand and there is was, a beautiful gold ring with two blue stones! The people from this area were apparently in the water so I walked on a bit and developed a plan to have the person identify the ring and then return it. Soon that occurred, a young lady ran in from the surf and identified the ring and said "This is wonderful, I lost my ring an hour ago in the beach sand & you found it for me!" . I presented it to her and she was very happy. The ring was handed down from her Great Aunt. A video of that find and return is attached to this blog. John K. My first metal detecting recovery and most memorable was in 1981. My good friend Ray and I were in the process of planning a trip to his father’s ranch in Central Texas on the Guadalupe River near the town of Boerne. Ray was in contact with his father letting him know we were coming in a couple of weeks. During the conversation his father mentioned he was very sad for he had lost his favorite pocket knife handed down by Ray’s Grandfather. My friend asked his Dad “where” on the ranch? “Near the feed trough by the old home site I reckon, was using it to cut feed bags open” he replied. Ray told him “John has a metal detector, maybe he can bring it along”. Since it was very muddy and cattle were everywhere Ray’s Father looked to no avail on that rainy day for his knife, it was gone. By the time Ray and I made the trip the area around the feed trough had dried somewhat and we could see with all the hoof prints why his father had no luck. That area was a mess with large and small limestone rocks everywhere. Within 15 minutes I received a faint signal on top of a flat limestone rock approximately 2 inches thick and 12 or so inches in diameter. We turned the rock over and to our amazement THERE WAS THE TREASURED POCKET KNIFE caked in semi dried mud! Apparently a cow had moved the rock on top of the pocket knife. We cleaned the keepsake in the water trough then headed back to the ranch house. Dad was drinking his afternoon coffee at the kitchen table. I placed the knife on the table next to his cup and said “Here you go sir, we found it“. I will remember the smile on his face forever. Finding Ray’s father’s pocket knife 42 years ago still creates a vivid and happy image in my mind.

Jordan Owner and Webmaster Lost Ring Finders Time is of the essence when rings are lost in public places, particularly beaches, for the window of opportunity closes rapidly in high traffic areas. DO NOT dig the beach sand yourself, the ring may descend past the detector’s capability. I can make a difference in successfully recovering your jewelry in all areas SE of Houston.
I use proven on site search methods to quickly find what you have lost, be it your ring, car keys, bracelet, watch, ear rings, necklace, pendant etc…..if it is made of metal I can find it! In instances of gold, silver or platinum rings lost on private property the opposite holds true. Even if years, possibly decades have passed do not give up, send an email or call today for it is never too late to recover what you may think is gone forever…more than likely it is still there. I will locate YOUR TREASURE for reward only! A small fee to cover fuel expense will get me on location ASAP. John K. Jordan Owner and Webmaster Lost Ring Finders |
