Lost Ring Finders
Wednesday August 11 2010 I met my treasure hunting buddies TXCoindigger, DiggerDun and OTlew (The Hole In The Beach Gang) at Stewart Beach Galveston, Texas for a late afternoon and evening treasure hunt. The weather was pleasant for a change, cloudy and cooler than normal. As I started hunting near the towel line a stranger with a metal detector approached. We shook hands, he told me he was from San Antonio. After a short conversation he walked away. In passing an umbrella he looked back and said "Someone lost a ring there, I tried to find it with no luck" (pointing at the sand) and then continued on his way. Fifty feet later I was at the umbrella. I double checked to see that my Fisher F4 was in All Metal mode then swung the coil. On the first pass of the Double D coil a strong signal was heard through my earphones! I switched to All Metal Discriminate Mode to check the Fisher VDI number. It was 27, definitely in the gold range. With my scoop I removed some sand and there is was, a beautiful gold ring with two blue stones! The people from this area were apparently in the water so I walked on a bit and developed a plan to have the person identify the ring and then return it. Soon that occurred, a young lady ran in from the surf and identified the ring and said "This is wonderful, I lost my ring an hour ago in the beach sand & you found it for me!" . I presented it to her and she was very happy. The ring was handed down from her Great Aunt. A video of that find and return is attached to this blog. John K. I enjoyed speaking with you on the phone Kelly. I will be going back to Galveston soon and attempt to find your lost ring, the search area you mentioned will be sizable but hopefully I can recover and return it. John...LRF
